The Benefits of Chlorophyll
During the hot summer months, it is so wonderful to know about cooling alkalizing drinks. One of the finest drinks I know of is a cool, refreshing, thirst quenching glass of mint or plain chlorophyll in purified water. Chlorophyll is provided for us by our Divine Creator and gives us many healing benefits.
What is chlorophyll? Chlorophyll is the green juice of plants that is created during photosynthesis or their interaction with the sunshine. Chlorophyll is a rich source of absorbable iron, which helps attract oxygen to our cells and builds hemoglobin. It is high in iron, which prevents anemia; potassium, which supports the muscles and heart; magnesium, which helps tone and relax the muscles; calcium, which helps build teeth and bones; and many other minerals and trace minerals. Chlorophyll is also rich in vitamins, including vitamins A and C, making it wonderful for the eyes and immune system, and some vitamin D, which helps in the absorption of calcium. Chlorophyll also contains vitamin K, which assists in normal blood clotting. Chlorophyll is a powerful antioxidant as well. Antioxidants fight oxidation, which causes aging. Oxidation is the loss of an electron, which creates free radicals. Oxidation causes oil to become rancid, steel to rust, or cells to break down in the body. Chlorophyll helps to fight and prevent the damages of oxidation.
Chlorophyll benefits the body in many ways. It is actually the "blood" of plants and builds the blood of people providing energy and relieving the exhaustion that comes when one is anemic. It neutralizes acids, which cause a whole host of ailments. Acids cause calcium to be leached from the bone causing osteoporosis, arthritis, kidney stones, gallstones, and bone spurs. Acids weaken the immune system and burn up the lining of the stomach and intestinal tract causing ulcers. Chlorophyll helps to dissolve stones, soothe stomach and intestinal ulcers, and alleviate burning in the stomach. It helps reduce flatulence as well. Recently, we have learned that acids in the body cause diabetics to have to increase their dosages of insulin. When they alkalinize the body using chlorophyll, and eating plenty of raw salads, they are often able to reduce the amount of insulin they are taking. Acids even cause hot flashes in menopausal women and cramping in menstruating women. Chlorophyll helps to soothe cramping of any kind and regulate menstrual periods. It also helps to improve milk production in nursing mothers. The body cannot heal any illness as long as it is acidic. When there are acids in the body, it will often produce fat in order to protect itself from the acids. When an overweight person alkalinizes the body, the fat begins to melt away because it is no longer needed. Thus chlorophyll helps a lot to balance one's weight.
Chlorophyll purifies the liver and the blood. It helps prevent bad breath and body odor (including under-arm and foot odors). People with sinus congestion and chronic sinus drainage have noticed their symptoms improving and going away when they drink chlorophyll. Gargling with and drinking chlorophyll in water helps to soothe and heal a sore throat and reduce the inflammation of gum infections. It reduces inflammation in all parts of the body and helps to decrease swelling in the joints due to excess fluid build-up. Chlorophyll acts as a natural diuretic and includes potassium. (Most chemical diuretics drain the body of potassium.) So alkalinizing the body with chlorophyll helps in our over-all healing and feeling of well-being. It helps to give us strength and energy. Dr. Bernard Jensen used to say, "When we're green inside, we are clean inside!"
Chlorophyll can be obtained in liquid form in either plain or mint flavor. I like to add a tablespoon to eight ounces of cool purified water and sip it throughout the day. It's truly delicious and so much better for us than those horrible acidic, sugary soft drinks out there that so many drink even more of throughout the hot summer months. And if you're drinking soft drinks with artificial sweeteners containing aspartame, that's even worse than sugar. Aspartame can create damage in the nerve sheaths and cause tremendous anxiety.
Other ways to get chlorophyll is in wheat grass juice, raw vegetable juices, and by eating raw leafy green vegetables.
