Using a salt water colon cleanse, also called a “salt water flush”, is one of the easiest and quickest ways to clean you colon at home. Not only is it colon cleansing, but it also cleanses your stomach and small intestine as well. In other words it flushes out your entire alimentary canal (digestive system). This master system cleanse removes all of the toxins, accumulated fecal matter, regular feces, parasites, and bacteria from your whole digestive tract.

There are many good laxatives, mixes, enemas, and other colon cleansing products on the market, but the simple salt water flush works well using basic ingredients instead of chemicals or medicines. A salt water colon cleanse is a healthier alternative.

To do a salt water colon cleanse, you will need to prepare yourself by scheduling at least a half or full day to complete the colon cleansing. You also need to skip at least one meal or fast overnight before you do a salt water master cleanse. Because of these reasons, most people prefer to do this system flush on the weekend first thing in the morning on a day they have nothing to do and don’t need to leave the house.

The salt water colon cleanse starts with one quart of lukewarm water. Add two or more tablespoons of UN-iodized salt or sea salt and stir or shake it until the salt fully dissolves. (Using table salt will not have the same effect, so don’t substitute it for the un-iodized or sea salt.) This formulation works like an oral enema.

Drink this salt water mixture quickly and wait for a few minutes before laying down and massaging your stomach down to your colon area. This helps break up accumulated waste as does crouching over your knees. I suggest a few basic yoga stretches that focus on stretching the front and back of your midsection. Your salt water colon cleansing procedure will be more effective the more you massage and stretch your upper, middle, and lower stomach.

Within thirty minutes to two hours after drinking the salt water, you will feel pressure build up in your colon and you will probably have several bowel movements over the next few hours. If you do not experience pressure and heaviness in your bowels, you either need to add more salt to the water or drink more water to completely flush your digestive system. This colon cleanse will actually clean out your system top to bottom.

It is important to remember that this type of colon cleansing cleans out good bacteria that aid in digestion and absorption of nutrients. You will want to replace the good bacteria by taking probiotic supplements and eating yogurt which also has live, colon-friendly, bacteria in it.

Maintain your clean colon by continuing colon cleansing naturally by eating a colon-friendly diet that includes fibrous fruits and veggies, beans, and yogurt. Avoid a lot of red meat, animal fats, refined sugars, and processed foods.

Starting a 5 day detox diet is easy and I’ll show you how easy it can be.
You can make your own detox diet plan if you want to, it’s as easy as going to the supermarket and buying fruits and veggies!
In the world we live in today, our body has to constantly cope with:

- Herbicide

- Sweeteners

And that is only the beginning!
Two hundred years ago our ancestors did not have to worry too much about cleansing themselves, but they did it anyway.
They ate better and were a healthier bunch in general, because they did not have all of the unhealthy products we have today.
A detox diet is not enough to improve your health.
The best thing you can do is to start improving your normal diet, but a detoxification diet like this will definitely boost your health.

The First Day
1 Today’s goal is to remove unhealthy foods and drinks from your diet. They are taxing your digestive system and they have to go!
That means almost everything that comes in a package or in a box, and anything containing:
• Additives
• Flavoring
• Oils
• Sugar
• Sweeteners
And I bet if you look at the label on your personal care products you’ll find that they contain a multitude of harmful chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) for example.

Did you know that SLS is a detergent used in the cleaning industry? It irritates the skin and gets absorbed into your body where it does long-term damage if used often. So for your personal care products, stop using them and go out and buy natural alternatives.
When you go out and buy a better shampoo, make sure you read the label and look what’s in it. If you can’t pronounce it, you probably should not use it. The simpler the shampoo is the better.

The Second Day
2 Alright, now you should have almost eliminated the bad stuff. Don’t worry if you haven’. You still have time to do it on the second day, but that’s it, no more slacking on this 5 day detox diet!
Are you wondering what you should eat now that you’ve eliminated all of your foods?
No problem! Today we start adding the healthy stuff. And I am mainly talking about fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. You can eat and buy as much fruit and vegetables as you want.
You can eat the fruits as they are or you can get creative and make fruit salads, smoothies, purées or whatever wets your taste buds.
As for the vegetables, you can make vegetable broths, freshly squeezed juices or just eat them raw in a salad with some nuts.
Don’t go overboard with the nuts. Limit yourself to around two handfuls of nuts per day, otherwise you will be getting too much fat in your diet and this will tax your digestive system.
Buy all your produce fresh, raw and organic if possible. If you live in an area where organic produce is not available then buy the next best thing.
Avoid canned, frozen and packaged products at all costs, these are highly processed and are not particularly healthy.
And if you want to, you can eat potatoes, rice and quinoa, but try to keep those to a minimum.

The Third Day
3 Now you’re realizing that this really isn’t that hard and eating all those yummy fruits is quite rewarding.
When you eat a large amount of fruit you get a lot of water, because fruits are packed with water and the water is very clean and healthy.
Nonetheless, I recommend that you drink half you bodyweight in ounces every day. So if you’re 150 pounds, you should drink at least 75 ounces of pure water.
Water is very important in because it helps transport the toxins out of your system.
Keep experimenting with different fruits and vegetables. Even if you do not like some vegetables, eat them anyway, I dare you! :)

The Fourth Day
4 Phew! Already on the fourth day are we?
You’re almost done with this 5 day detox diet. Today I want you to try to add some fresh juices, that means squeezing the juice yourself and drinking it immediately.
If you do not have a juicer then considering buying one. If you feel like you don’t need a juicer then carry onward without the juices, no problem!
I want you to replace two of your meals with freshly squeezed juices.
You can blend any fruits and vegetables that you like. Try not to skip the vegetables.
They can taste bad, but they are vital for your body!

The Fifth Day
5 You’re almost done! If you’ve made it this far then congratulations!
Today you’ll be on cruise control eating your fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds alongside your two daily juices.

Are you at a higher risk for colon cancer if you are constipated? The answer is yes.1 You are two to three times more likely to develop colon cancer if you are experiencing constipation enough to warrant using laxatives. This risk is higher for women than men and higher in black women than other women.2

Other diseases are also more likely if you are constantly constipated including hemorrhoids, which can be caused by straining during a bowel movement. Anal fissures are caused when a hard stool actually rips the tissue on the inside of the anus.

Severe complications from constipation include rectal prolapse where the intestinal lining is pushed from the anal opening. Diverticulitis, an outpouching of the lining of the colon, is complicated or created by constipation. Fecal impaction is a potentially harmful condition where the stool becomes so stuck that it has to be removed manually.

While appendicitis is thought to arise from infection, the incidence is higher in people who are constantly constipated. In fact, the amount of fiber in a child’s diet is directly related to the chances of getting appendicitis.

Some four million Americans experience constipation on a regular basis; more than half that number will visit a doctor each year with constipation as a major complaint. Constipation tends to happen more often in the elderly and in pregnant women, but it can strike people of all ages. At last count, Americans were spending over $700 million dollars a year on laxatives!

The first major reason for so much constipation in the United States is that we are trained not to go to the bathroom when we have the urge. Remember when you were young and in school? You couldn’t get up and go to the bathroom any time you wanted to. After you ate lunch and were sitting in class, you’d get the signal from your body that it was time to go. But did you go? No, you sat there and ignored what you body was telling you.

It is rare for an animal to hold onto their stool for very long. We have muscles and the ability to hold on to our stool, but in the wild world, this is a rare occurrence. Most animals and babies go when they have to go. We, however, are taught to hold it until the time is right.

The problem with this type of training is that the body eventually gets the message; it will stop telling you that it is time to go to the bathroom. The muscles that hold back stool also become stronger and better at keeping stool from coming out. It becomes a vicious cycle.
Another reason for the epidemic number of people who are constipated in the United States is the Standard American Diet. The stool of people living in native cultures is full of fiber. This means that the bowel movements they have are larger and bulkier. A larger stool is easier to pass.

Much of the food we eat in the United States is made from ground up seeds such as bread, cereals, cake, and other foods made from flours. Eating grains is fine, but it is much healthier to eat them in whole form – the way most people eat rice. The difference is that eating grains that have been ground makes for stool that is hard and compacted.

Imagine dirt or soil. If there is a high proportion of organic material called humus or fiber in the soil, it is light and airy; if there is no organic material, we call it clay. Your bowel movements are the same; they can either be light and bulky or clay-like, depending on what you are eating.

Another reason for all the constipation in the United States is that most people in our culture don’t take care of their bowels by giving them a rest (more on this later).

To get an idea of what is normal or “not constipation”, we can turn to three teachers.

Animals:
Most animals will have a bowel movement soon after they eat a major meal. You can train a puppy to go outside by keeping them in a tight enclosure for half an hour after they eat, and then take them outside. Birds are famous for going while they are eating. Likewise, cats, dogs, goldfish, horses, and other animals all go shortly after they have eaten. Domestic animals suffer more constipation than wild animals because of the foods we feed them.

Children:
Small children also follow this pattern and can help us to determine what is normal. Breast-fed infants, especially, have a bowel movement with every large feeding. Parents can often time when their toddlers will go to the bathroom. They know that shortly after breakfast or lunch, their children will be headed to the bathroom, especially if they are running around and active. Much fewer children suffer with constipation than adults.

Non-western Cultures:
Another method we can use to uncover what is normal is to look at people who live in non-western cultures, and who eat a diet that is tied to their environment. Scientists who study these people note that they typically have two to three bowel movements a day, and the movements are usually much heavier than the stool of someone who eats a typical Western diet.

People in these cultures would scratch their heads at the concept of constipation. It just doesn’t make sense to them. Non-western people don’t have large stacks of reading material next to where they go to the bathroom because they don’t sit and wait for a movement to happen…it just happens.

Taking our cue from these teachers, we find that a natural number of bowel movements is probably between two and three a day – one for each major meal of the day. For health reasons, it is good to have at least one bowel movement a day…if you are having less than you could be classified as suffering with constipation.
